Objective

Students encounter the patient professionally, appreciatively and empathically with health-promoting approach. Students work in a patient-oriented manner, and in dialogical interaction with the patient. Students interview the patient and document the information on the interview form. Students are able to measure blood pressure and perform neurovascular status. Students are able to examine breathing and chest movement. Students identify the most common areas of edema.
Internal diseases
Students identify the main symptoms of major chronic diseases in Finland, and are able to describe their causes, examinations and treatments. Students are able to interpret the most common laboratory results.

Symptoms and signs
Students are able to combine use the previously learned medical information for their practical work in differential diagnostics. Students develop their observation skills of patient’s general condition as part of monitoring patient examining and treating.

Content

Making of anamnesis and document the patient data
Measurement of blood pressure and examination of peripheral circulation
Dermatomes, myotomes, muscle forces and deep tendon reflections
Examination routines
Examination of respiratory movements and thorax
Observation and palpation of the most common areas of edema

The course includes 1 cr of clinical practice.

Laboratory tests

Symptoms and signs: 1 cr
Symptoms, causes, examinations and treatments of major chronic diseases in Finland
Interpretation of laboratory results
Examining the general condition of the patient
Symptoms of respiratory system, circulatory system, lymph node, genitals and intestines to which the osteopath should react to
Monitoring the patient’s general condition during the treatment period

In the Myllypuro campus or remotely, the studies are seen in schedule.
