Objective
Surgery
Students know the main mechanisms of wound formation from the perspective of their profession and are aware of the treatment and prevention of pressure wounds. Students know the main causes; symptoms and basic lines of treatment related to chronic diseases, and can explain the main aspects of burn treatment.
Physiatry / musculoskeletal diseases
Students are able to list the most typical musculoskeletal problems according to the division based on body parts. They are capable of tissue-specific thinking in physiatry. They are also able to examine and create assistive device solutions for the benefit of the client from the perspective of their own profession.
Orthopedics
Students are aware of the different types of fractures and the main principles of their treatment. They become acquainted with the typical orthopedic problems encountered in our countries. They know the main symptoms of orthopedic problems and their usual diagnostic and treatment practices.
Symptoms & Signs
Students have the theoretical competence for an independent patient examination. Students recognize the major illnesses requiring further treatment. They familiarize themselves with the typical symptoms and etiology of illnesses with the help of clinical examination practice.
Students are well aware of other health care professions (e.g. physiotherapists, osteopaths,
podiatrists, occupational therapists, prosthetic and orthotic technicians) and their duties and responsibilities regarding safe patient care.
Neurology
Students are familiar with the basics of pathophysiology of the major neurological disorders in Finland, their major symptoms and clinical examination practices. Students understand the basic models of neurological treatment and the importance of preventing neurological disorders. Students understand the significance of their profession as part of the current neurological rehabilitation practices.

- Surgically treatable chronic diseases: the main causes, symptoms and basic lines of treatment of gastrointestinal, circulatory, respiratory and cancer diseases
- Burn treatment
Physiatry / musculoskeletal diseases
- Body parts based sectoral classification of musculoskeletal diseases
: the most common diseases and injuries of the neck, back, pelvis and limbs
- Tissue-specific thinking in physiatry: key pathophysiological features of ligaments, tendons, muscles, cartilage, and nerve tissue
- Tissue-specific examination and recovery
Orthopedics
- Fractures and fracture treatment
- The main orthopedic problems of the bone, joint, tendon and ligament structures of the neck, back, pelvis and limbs
- Key symptoms of orthopedic problems and standard examination and treatment practices
