Objective

The students know how to
• Identify key legislation governing substance abuse and mental health services
• Identify substance abuse and mental health services for the older people
• Describe ways to face an older person living with a substance abuse or mental health problem in different ways
• Identify the special issues and needs of substance abuse and mental health work for older people and their relatives
• Identify assessment methods used in substance abuse and mental health work for older people

• encountering a mentally ill older person and access to treatment
• the impact of substance use in older people on health, well-being and ability to function
• encountering an older person living with a substance abuse problem, addressing substance abuse and referring them to appropriate rehabilitation

Assessment methods and criteria

Learning assignments; continuous assessment (active participation in contact teaching); 100%. See evaluation criteria (+learning assignment guidelines). A failed learning assignment must be complemented within one month. An approved assignment cannot be complemented.
