Tavoitteet

Knowledge and understanding:
Students will learn some basic concepts of fluid mechanics through their application in toys, and they will develop observant eyes to understand real physical phenomena with the concepts of physics and fluid mechanics.
Students will gain knowledge about "what is a fluid", "how to treat fluid physically" and "the basis of aerodynamics".

Skills:
Students will acquire an observational eye to physically perceive phenomena by conducting experiments.
Students will be able to make their own traditional toys.

Practice and Lab work:
Students will learn physics and fluid dynamics concepts related to the phenomena covered in the class. Students will handmade their own toys in each class. Students will experiment and observe and understand the physical phenomenon. Finally, students will use their knowledge of physics and fluid mechanics to improve the performance of their toys or add another feature.

Sisältö

1. Studying fluid mechanics I, density, static pressure, buoyancy. (Lecture)
Handmade a toy “cartesian dive” and conduct an experiment I (Lab work)
2. Studying fluid mechanics II, Coanda effect (Lecture)
Handmade a toy “Suspension Blowing ball” and conduct an experiment II (Lab work)
3. Studying fluid mechanics III, conservation of energy in fluids (Lecture)
Handmade a toy “water clock” and modify with fluid mechanics (Lab work)
4. Studying fluid mechanics IV, aerodynamics, lift, inertia moment (Lecture)
Handmade a toy “paper bamboo dragonfly” and improve its performance (Lab work)
5. Studying fluid mechanics V, aerodynamics, lift, inertia moment, gyro effect (Lecture)
Handmade a toy “paper boomerang” and conduct experiment (Lab work)
