Objective

Students strengthen their expertise and knowledge in the aids and assistive devices process and assessment.
Students are aware of the most common risk factors for common diseases, disease prevention and treatment options. Students know the physical and mental factors caused by diseases and how they affect the ability to function and are able to take them into account in their work. Students are able to search research-based information.

Infectious diseases and disease control
Student master appropriate aseptic operation. They know how to prevent the spread of infections with their own actions. They understand the importance of infection control in their own profession. They are able to act aseptically and protect the client, themselves and the working community.


Pathophysiology
Students know how to describe etiology, progress and structural changes at cellular and tissue level as well as the recovery process of the most common diseases from the perspective of pathophysiology. Students can apply pathophysiological knowledge in the examination and treatment of the most common diseases from the perspective of their profession.

Internal medicine
Students familiarize themselves with the common internal conditions prevalent in Finland, their etiology, symptoms, examination and care from the perspective of their profession. Students understand the role of their professional education as part of the prevention and a wide range of rehabilitation services of the chronic diseases prevalent in Finland.

Gerontology and geriatrics
Students understand gerontology and geriatrics as disciplines, and know the basics of aging theories. They are able to explain the key tissue-specific changes in different organ systems. They know the health challenges of an aging population and the societal implications there of. They understand the care options for an aging population from the perspective of their own profession.

Palpation and sonopalpation
Students perceive the structure and composition of the body manually, by hand. They become acquainted with the possibilities of real-time ultrasound imaging to view tissues that are difficult to examine manually. They are also familiar with motion imaging and ultrasound-assisted control of supporting tissues.

- Healing from the perspective of pathophysiology

Internal diseases
- Basic mechanisms of the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory diseases and diabetes and urinary disorders, as well as the main features of the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.

Gerontology and geriatrics
- Gerontology and geriatrics as disciplines
- Fundamentals of aging theories
- Key tissue-specific changes in different organ systems
- Health challenges and societal impact of an aging population
- Impairment of the functioning of older people in different organ systems and their identification

- Treatment options for an aging population

Palpation and sonopalpation
- Perceiving body structure and composition manually, by hand
- Real-time ultrasound imaging is used to examine tissues that are difficult to examine manually
- Movement imaging and ultrasound-assisted control of supporting tissues
