Objective

The student is able to find, choose and utilize music versatilely in different professional activities and situations, responding to different needs. The ability to recognize musical phenomena and their historical continuum beyond musical genres, and the ability to connect these phenomena to current topics, enhances the student’s professional growth into an active future operator. The student improves their historical thinking, criticism of sources, co-operative skills and knowledge of musical repertoire, as well as their verbal expression and argumentation skills in interactive situations.

Content

Musical phenomena, such as timbre and sound, rhythm and musical time, structure and perception, performance and listening, and the examination of their change in both the past and the present. Analysing the trends of musical change in different times and genres.

Location and time

On Mondays between 9-12 am over the period of 4 September-11 December. The schedule will be defined before the teaching starts.

Oppimateriaaleja annetaan tehtävien yhteydessä. Tehtäviin sisältyy myös itsenäistä tiedonhankintaa.

Teaching methods

Onsite teaching plus independet work.

Student workload

1 credit = 27 hours. Plan and reserve time for the assignments. Theoretically 10 hours/a week.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student can recognize the central trends and phenomena of musical change, and utilize musical heritage creatively in their own professional activities. The student can follow set schedules, argue and justify their own opinions in interactive situations, and find new perspectives from the presentations of others.
