Objective
The students acquire the written and oral language skills in the second domestic language that are necessary in their professional field, as required by national legislation (352/2003 8§). Students are able to communicate, orally and in writing, in Swedish in professional contexts both in Finland and in the other Nordic countries OR in Finnish (Finnish as a second language), taking into account the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the communication partners.Students acquire oral and written language and communication skills (Swedish or Finnish as a second language) that are at least at the B1 level as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Students learn to seek information related to their own professional field in various sources and convey information both orally and in writing in field-related tasks, employing technology and the possibilities arising from digitalisation. During the studies, students gain the ability to take responsibility of their own language and communicative competence as well as skills and motivation to develop it further. The contents of the course vary according to the study program, and the course contains field-specific oral and written exercises.

- Essential international and domestic-international interaction situations: individual and group communication
- Essential business concepts and terminology
- Business organizations, work environments, tasks, processes and tools
- Self-evaluation of language and communication skills, learning strategy development
Students learn to use the vocabulary of their chosen field both orally and in writing.

The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. The student is able to define the course concepts and models and are able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of business and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student masters commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student is able to analyze the business sector expertise and the development of his/her own expertise.
