Objective

Upon completion of the course, the student will have an understanding of workplace diversity and multicultural teamwork. S/he will have developed his/her presentation and demonstration skills. S/he will know how to apply critical thinking, discussion and interpersonal skills to challenging and sensitive cultural issues.

On these dates, students will work independently:
Thursday, February 16th
[Week 8 - sport holiday week- no session on Thursday, February 23rd]
Thursday, April 6th
[Week 19 - If needed to cover the course learning outcomes, we will meet on Thursday, May 11th. If not, the course will end already on Thursday, May 4th.]


Note that on Thursday 26.1. and Thursday 2.2. our sessions will begin in classroom C310 at 13.45 and wrap up by 16.15.

Materials

Recommended literature and other course material will be announced during the course kickoff session on Thursday, January 19th, 2023.
Lecturer's material will be made available via OMA.
Current material will be shared during the course.

This course cannot be completed by taking an exam.

Student workload

The scope of the course is 5 ECTS (130 h).
Student workload during contact sessions = approx. 30 hours
Student workload outside contact sessions = approx. 100 hours

The lecturer will lecture in English.

Both Finnish and English will be used as working languages.

Students are free to take part in the course in Finnish and / or English. All learning tasks may be done in Finnish or English.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has achieved the course objectives fairly. The student will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. The student is able to define the course concepts and models and are able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of business and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student masters commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student is able to analyze the business sector expertise and the development of his/her own expertise.

Assessment methods and criteria

Learning tasks 80%.
