Objective

Students
- can apply the theoretical knowledge and clinical competence required by the clinical practice environment in nursing of clients/patients
- are competent in the different nursing procedures and diagnostic examinations required by the clinical practice environment as part of the overall nursing care of clients/patients
- adopt a client-oriented approach to health promotion and preventive nursing care of clients/patients and their significant others
- follow the ethical guidelines and principles of nursing
- act as responsible members of multiprofessional workgroups and work community
- identify development needs of nursing
- are proficient in working life skills
- are able to evaluate their competence and develop it further

Content

Clinical Practice in nursing environment

Location and time

Clinical practice, weeks 41-50.

Materials

Vocational literature on the practice environment given in connection with theoretical studies.

Teaching methods

Clinical practice in perioperative unit. The student must have successfully completed all basic practice (clinical practice 1-6). The drug calculation exam included in the theoretical studies must have been passed. Training may be denied if the medication test has not been passed.

International connections

It is possible to complete the clinical practice in an international exchange in emergency, intensive care units or perioperative units according to the instructions of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

Completion alternatives

No optional methods. The student can accept the clinical practice with the nurse's previous work, but this is not recommended. The student makes an AHOT-application to their own tutor teacher. The clinical practice can also be done as a paid nurse job.

Student workload

Clinical practice is 15 ects. The practice is 10 weeks and 400 hours. During the practice, the working methods, shifts and general principles of the work community are followed in connection with the practice.

Content scheduling

Practice is done in 2023 at weeks 41-50. As a student graduate in December, the practice must be completed before the graduation date.

Opiskelijan tulee suorittaa teoriaopintojen yhteydessä järjestettävä lääkelaskukoe hyväksytysti ennen harjoittelun alkamista. Mikäli lääkelaskukoe on hylätty, voidaan harjoitteluun lähteminen evätä.

Prerequisites

Competence according to practice site requirements, knowledge of pharmacotherapy and drug calculation related to the practice environment. Clinical nursing practices 1-6 completed, unless otherwise agreed in the student's ISP.
