Objective

Students
- deepen their evidence-based competence in accordance with the key competence areas of nursing: clinical, decision-making, patient education, interaction, ethical, health promotion, and development and leadership competence
- can evaluate their evidence-based development and assume responsibility for the quality of nursing in their own actions
- are prepared for future-oriented and patient/client-oriented development of nursing
- deepen competence in planning, implementing, evaluating and developing nursing of children, young persons and families in different operating environments
- deepen competence in supporting and providing patient education to children, young persons and their families in different phases of the clinical pathway

Content

- evidence-based nursing and its development
- nurses’ expertise and multiprofessional teamwork and networks
- health technology and competence in future nursing
- advanced studies on nursing of children, young persons and families (both somatization and mental health)
- patient education on the patient’s resources and empowerment as well as supporting and providing education to his/her family
- specific questions related to the study unit

Location and time

1st period weeksi 32-40. Week 32 includes independent study in Moodle learning environment. The lectures is held in Myllypuro campus during weeks 33-40.

Exam schedules

The dates of the exam are announced in the course.
Children's and adolescent's mental health nursing written exam will be at week 38. The first resit examination in the exam class will be in week 41. Second resit examination will be in week 45.

Content scheduling

1st period, weeks 32-40.

Further information

This is an advanced course in Degree Program Nursing. It is for the last academic year. Completion of the course requires basic studies and basic exercises. Development of Nurse Expertise - Clinical Practice can not be started until all basic exercises have been successfully completed.

Participation in orientation, theory classes and simulation is obligatory. If a student is absent they have to talk about compensation of absence. Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins or in another manner agreed with the lecturer. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer of this in advance.

Tuition is in Finnish.

Prerequisites

The student may choose the nursing expertise studies when he has completed the theoretical studies included in the professional nursing studies and clinical practices included in these, unless otherwise agreed in the student's ISP.
