Planning the Bachelor’s Thesis (5 ECTS)

Learning outcomes
Students will recognise and be able to justify the starting points for their bachelor’s thesis from the perspective of developing their own professional field. They will be capable of effectively cooperating in various work networks and professionally discussing with industry representatives, instructors and students. Students will able to prepare a viable plan for their final project based on critical research and creative solutions. They will know how to identify and solve work-related ethical issues. Students will use English research resources to plan for their bachelor’s thesis.

Contents:
- Identifying current development needs in the field
- Partnership negotiations with industry representatives, a networking work approach, peer support
- Understanding the process of the bachelor’s thesis
- Information retrieval in English and Finnish, critical evaluation of sources
- Justification of chosen working methods and practices
- Workshops in methodology, academic writing and information gathering
- Communication in R&D
- Drawing up a proposal and a viable working plan; their presentation at a seminar
- Applying for research permission and drawing up the agreement for the bachelor’s thesis

Prerequisites

Before attending the course, the students must have completed minimum of 95 ECTS, including competence from the following courses: Research and Development in Occupational Therapy.

Teaching methods

Opiskelija, joka on jo tehnyt opinnäytetyön, Pro Gradu työn tai vastaavan, voi hakeutua tälle opintojaksolle. AHOT hakemuksen perusteena oleva työ tulee olla pääsääntöisesti alle 10 vuotta vanha.

TEE AHOT
Opiskelija tekee AHOT hakemuksen seuraaville jaksoille, ja perustelee hakemuksen sekä liittää siihen tarvittavat todistukset, dokumentit ja reflektoivan esseen:
Opinnäytetyön suunnittelu (AHOT)
Opinnäytetyön raportointi ja julkistaminen (AHOT)
Opinnäytetyön toteutus (AHOT)

AHOT hakemukset osoitetaan ohjaavalle opettajalle (Annariika Anundi). Vasta kun AHOT-hakemus on hyväksytty, opiskelija hyväksytään opintojaksolle.

Opiskelija tekee itsenäisesti osaamisen näyttöön tarvittavan kirjallisuuskatsauksen.

Location and time

Opintojakso toteutuu syksyllä 2023. Orientaatio etänä ke 23.8.23 klo 9-10.30 (zoom-linkki: https://metropolia.zoom.us/j/6385540865 6). Kirjallisuuskatsauksen palautus ma 20.11.23 ja esitykset etänä 21.11.23 (zoom-linkki XX). Kypsyysnäyte (EXAM) 22.11.2023.

Itsenäistä työskentelyä, ei sisällä opettajan ohjausta (ahot: osaamisen osoittaminen).

Alternative completion methods of implementation

Tavanomainen 15 op opinnäytetyö.

Internship and working life connections

AHOT-opinnäytetyön aihe kartoitetaan työelämäyhteistyökumppanin kanssa ja aiheen tulee olla kytketty työelämästä lähteneeseen tarpeeseen sekä työelämän kehittämiseen toimintaterapian näkökulmasta.

Student workload

AHOT-opinnäytetyötä ei voi aloittaa, ennenkuin 4 ensimmäistä lukukautta suoritettu. AHOT-opparilla osoitetaan toimintaterapian alan ammatillisen harkinnan ja asiantuntijuuden kasvu ja taso. Tämän vuoksi perusopinnot tulee olla suoritettu.

Prosessi tulee suorittaa määrätyssä ajassa ja AHOT -opinnäytetyötä ei voi venyttää yli yhden lukukauden. Mikäli osaamisen näytön kirjallisuuskatsaus ei valmistu tai se ei ole hyväksytty, tulee opiskelijan ilmoittautua seuraavalle toteutukselle ja aloittaa alusta.

AHOT-opinnäytetyö tehdään yksilötyönä.

Osaamisen näyttö arvioidaan hyväksytty/hylätty asteikolla. Arvioinnista ei laadita erillistä lausuntoa tekijälle.
