Objective

After completion of the course the student
• understands the basic theory of electrics and electronics and applications in automotive industry
• knows how to use diagnostic tools with modern vehicles and demanding diagnostics tasks
• understands safety measures and knows how to work safely
• understands the significance of electronics and communication buses in modern vehicle
• understands the key principles of internal combustion engine and electric motor control and is able to use them in diagnostics.

Automotive electrics and electronics
• Automotive battery technology (lead and other starter batteries)
• Alternators and energy control
• Starter motors
• Sensor technology
• Ignition systems
• Automotive communication bus systems
• Lights and auxiliary equipment
• Basics of working safely with automotive electrics

Combustion engine control systems
• Gasoline and diesel motor control

Diagnostics technology
• Basic tools
• Different steps in diagnostic technology (product development, production, after market)
• Diagnostic systems

The student
• has achieved the objectives of the course to a satisfactory level

The student
• has achieved the objectives of the course well, although there are still areas where knowledge and skills need to be improved
• has a good understanding of the concepts and models of the subject matter of the course and is able to carry out a reasoned analysis
• is able to apply what they have learned in learning and working life situations
• understands the importance of expertise in working life and is able to analyse their own expertise.
