Objective

The student understands the basics of environmental chemistry of air, waste, soil and water. The student knows structure and bonding of organic molecules and is able to identify functional groups and name simple organic molecules. The student can recognize common organic reactions and predict outcome of reactions. The student is aware of possibilities to apply microbiology in the field of environmental technology.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student understands the basics of environmental chemistry.
The student understands the basics of organic chemistry.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to calculate pH of weak acids and bases and buffer solutions.
The student can describe the functions of some important microbes used in environmental protection processes.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to calculate pH using activities.
The student can name simple polyfunctional organic molecules and draw stereochemical structures.
The student knows the microbiology of some environmental treatment processes on a specific level.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student understands the basics of environmental chemistry.
The student understands the basics of organic chemistry.

Qualifications

The student understands the essential concepts related to the structure of elements and compounds. The student is also able to conduct basic calculations concerning the amount of substance, irreversible reactions, the contents of solutions and the pH of strong acids and bases.
