Objective

The student
• understands the key characteristics and trends with respect to the history of European art, architecture and design
• understands the way Western arts and crafts developed into industrial design
• knows the essential trends as well as major artists and designers of the Western world
• understands the economical, social and historical context of arts and crafts, architecture and industrial design
• is able to understand and evaluate their own professional activities in the context of the history of art and design.

The student
• understands the main features and trends in the history of European art, architecture and design
• is aware of the development of Western craftsmanship into art and industrial design
• knows the main influences of Western and Finnish art and design
• is able to examine art, architecture, crafts and design in relation to economic, social and industrial developments
• is able to evaluate their own professional activities in relation to the history of art and design.

The student
• is familiar with the main features and trends in the history of European art, architecture and design
• masters the development of Western craftsmanship into art and industrial design
• knows the main influences of Western and Finnish art and design
• is able to examine art, architecture, crafts and design in relation to economic, social and industrial developments
