Content
Clinical practice includes learning laboratory and simulation studies 2.5 ects
Teaching methods
Clinical skills practices (laboraatio) and simulations are organized at the school in connection with the deepening theoretical studies prior to the clinical practice. Students must complete these prior the clinical practice. In addition, students must have completed all the basic level clinical practices in curriculum prior the deepening clinical practice.
Clinical practice is done in a suitable environment chosen by the student.
Location and time
Clinical practice is during the weeks 12-19.
A student cannot commence the clinical practice before the week 12 The clinical practice can be done later, if the student will graduate later.
Learning materials and recommended literature
Vocational literature on the clinical practice environment given in connection with theoretical studies. Students must familiarize themselves with literature related to the clinical practice.
Alternative completion methods of implementation
No optional methods. The student can have this clinical practice recognized by prior learning. In a case of RPL, a student will follow Metropolia RPL instructions and discuss with their tutor about the process. The clinical practice can be recognized only by a work experience as a substitute nurse in a suitable clinical environment. The work experience must be acquired in one continues period of at least 320 hours. The student must present a self assessment, a written proof of the employment and completed hours. The RPL application must be done at least 4 weeks before commencement of the clinical practice. It is possible to have part of the clinical practice recognized by prior learning before commencing the clinical practice.

Clinical practice can be done as an international student exchange. Contact the international coordinator in advance and follow the relevant Metropolia instructions.
Student workload
Clinical practice is 12.5 ECTS credits over a period of 8 weeks( 320 hours). During the training, the working methods, shifts and general principles of the work community are followed in connection with the training. During the practice there is a written assignment (research club), which provides separate instruction in theory studies. Doing the assignment does not reduce the number of hours of training. All possible absences must be compensated.
Content scheduling
Practice is done at weeks 43-50. The practice must be completed before the graduation date.
Further information for students
There is a total of 15 credits in practice, of which 3 credits are laboratory / simulation instruction at the school. Labs / simulations and medication calculation exam must be completed before the practice starts.
Students must have completed all the basic level clinical practices in curriculum prior the deepening clinical practice.
