Objective

The student is able to describe the basic principles of copyright legislation and can apply them both from a creative and performing musician’s standpoint. The student can discern the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, taxation and contractual practices, and the differences between various forms of enterprise and their applicability in their own operations. The student can specify the most important reporting and contract practices regarding e.g. music publishing and distribution. The student knows how to search for information on domestic funding systems for creative industries and how to write a good funding or grant application. The student is able to design and implement the productional content and different stages of operation of a complete music project.

Content

The players in the music business and their duties. Fundamentals of copyright systems and specific issues from the viewpoints of the creative and performing musician as well as the record producer. The central copyright and professional organizations and their services. The notifications, licences, and identifiers required for writing and producing music professionally. Entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Grants and applications. Design and documentation of the production branch of a music project.

Qualifications

The student is familiar with the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. The student can specify different forms of enterprise in the music business, contractual procedures, professional activities, taxation procedures, the social security system and proper bookkeeping, as well as the basic principles of copyright legislation. The student can describe the significance and regulations of advertising and marketing in the music business and is familiar with essential marketing channels and scholarship systems. The student can recognize their core competencies and find ways to productize them.
