Objective

Students know the main developments in the history of the media that are relevant to their future profession. They understand the connections between the contemporary media environment and the history of the media. They are able to critically assess the current state of their industry and its future prospects in relation to history.

Content

Main developments in the history of the media that are relevant to their future profession (e.g., print media, film, radio, television, digital media, online media, theatre).

Aesthetic, technical, economic and social dimensions of the history of media and the connections between different media forms.

Exam schedules

The grading will take place in Autumn 2022 according to following deadline dates: 31 August, 30, September, 30 November, 31 December 2022. The assignments returned before each deadline will be graded within 4 work weeks after each deadline date. In case of November and December returns, the grading may take place in the beginning of year 2023. The grading date will be last Friday of the month when the assingment is returned, except December, when the grading date is the last day of semester. No re-exam possibility after the last deadline.

The students are to get acquainted with the course materials and do the assingments during summer and autumn 2022. The grading will take place in Autumn 2022 according to following deadline dates: 31 August, 30, September, 30 November, 31 December 2022. They are able to recognize connections between historical and modern media forms from the point of view of their professional field.

They are familiar with the key periods in the history of media forms related to their professional field, and are able to assess the relationship between historical and modern media forms. They recognize the impact of the historical development in their own professional field, and are able to assess its significance to their own professional activities.

Students actively participate in class and complete the assignments to an excellent standard. They have a comprehensive understanding of the key periods in the history of media forms related to their professional field, and are able to assess the relationship between historical and modern media forms in a versatile way. They have a comprehensive understanding of the impact of the historical development in their own professional field, and are able to assess its significance and applicability to their own professional activities in a versatile way.
