Objective
Students
- can use their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, applied pharmacology and administration of pharmacotherapy to plan, implement and evaluate safe pharmacotherapy of different client/patient groups
- are able to plan, implement and evaluate peripheric and central intravenous infusion, nutritional and pharmacotherapeutic care safely
- are able to provide patient education to clients and patients and their significant others in pharmacotherapy and intravenous infusion
- can implement safe blood transfusion
- are aware of the potentially threatening situations and their reporting

- nurse’s role, tasks and responsibility regarding intravenous infusion and pharmacotherapeutic care
- pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and toxicology
- different pharmacons
- pharmacotherapeutic effects, side effects and synergism, mechanisms of synergism
- planning, implementing, evaluating and developing the effectiveness of safe peripheric and central intravenous infusion, nutritional and pharmacotherapeutic care
- basics of intravenous infusion and blood transfusion
- recognition, prevention and dealing with medication errors
- multiprofessional cooperation on pharmacotherapy
- patient safety reporting as part of quality control

Myllypuro campus. If online lectures they are marked clearly in schedule by the teacher in question.

Exam material:
On english implementation course and exam material is given at the Orientation. Orientation is of compulsory attendance.
In top-up group students do not study pharmacology part, nor they do pharmacology exam.

PLEASE NOTE in the top up degree pharmacology part of this course has been given RPL and therefore not studied
· Student will have theory exam in Pharmacotherapy part. Everyone is entitled to two retake attempts. Retake dates are announced at the orientation of the course. Exam grade could be upgraded once preferably at the first retake exam. Enrollment to the retake exams will happen using the name of the teacher in charge of the course. Retake exams are taken in general re-take exam dates. Please adhere to Metropolia guidelines regarding enrolment process for the retake exams. (Instructions can be found in OMA)

· 1 cr = 27 h
· The course consists of 135 hours of which the amount contact hours will be 44 h (theory, clinical laboratory teaching and simulation) and independent study 91 h (preparing for exam, web-based materials and learning assignments)
NOTE: top-up students only study Pharmacotherapy part!
Further information
Pharmacotherapy 2 contains the following parts: theory, clinical labs and simulations, pharmacology 2 lectures (latter does not apply to top-up students). Info about exam practices will be provided on orientation.
· In case of absence from the orientation it is student´s responsility to find out from peers about the practicalities of the course. In case of absence from the lectures same applies, participation requirement 80%, clinical laboratory teaching and simulation 100%
·Clinical labs and simulations are compulsory and it is required that the student attends the teaching wearing nursing uniform and appropriate footwear. All students must follow basic aseptic guidelines .
· Previous studies/courses that must be completed before Pharmacotherapy 2: Pharmacotherapy 1 theory, clinical labs and simulations, clinical nursing and anatomy and fysiology.
· Prerequisite
Beginning of pharmacotherapy 2 studies:
Basic knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology. Basic knowledge of Pharmacotherapy.
· Recognition of prior learning (AHOT/RPL): Recognition of prior learning is only possible for those students who completed similar studies in higher education

Assessment methods and criteria
Exam evaluated numerically from 1 to 5 unless FAIL. Retake exams will be evaluated similarly to the initial exam.
