Learning outcomes
Students will know how to plan, implement, document and evaluate children’s learning and pedagogically emphasized, transversal and goal-oriented activities that support well-being. Students will identify special features of children’s culture and community and use them in their professional activities. They will be capable of connecting children’s activities to their immediate environment and a sustainable lifestyle. They will know how to evaluate and develop pedagogical and goal-oriented activity in early childhood education community.
Content
Different areas of learning in early childhood education: language, expression, artistic experience, communality, exploring, multi-literacy, physical education, taking care of oneself and managing daily life. Children’s projects and play through storytelling. Optional pedagogies.

Internship and working life connections
The child project -assignment is implemented in working life, in early childhood education.
In addition, exercises and cooperation also with Metropolia's HyMy village (eg in the family café) and with other students studying there. Groups of children may also attend the lectures.

Orientation lecture on week 3
weeks 3-13 lectures, trainings and workshops
Weeks 11-15, doing project with children in a Day care centre (planning, implementig and evaluating) / allow time enough to put in practice the project
week 18 presenting the project
The assignments can be written in English.

If the student has a special support decision that affects the course, the student must contact the course supervisor immediately after the end of the registration period.
Teachers have the right to give the student additional duties, for example, due to absenteeism, on pedagogical grounds.

The tuition is both in English and in Finnish.
The lectures are mainly in Finnish, but the materials (lecture and other materials) are in both languages. Students can use the language of their choice.

Assessment methods and criteria
Active participation in contact teaching,
approved completion of learning tasks and project.
Numerical grade is given for the project / project report, based on which an overall evaluation of the course is given.
In addition feedback from teachers during lectures, trainings and workshops. feedback from the peer group, self-evaluation
Accepted course progress requires 3/4 attendance during the classroom working and reflection is required for each absence.
