Learning outcomes

After the course, the students know well terminology of their own field in Finnish, and they are able to interpret, process, and deliver the essential, field-specific information.
They know how to communicate and express their own views in written and oral conversations. They are able to apply what they have learned in working life situations.
The students are able to assess their own language skills and know how to improve it independently after the professional studies.

Content

Practicing field-specific Finnish communication and terminology according to the language skills required in the professional field. The contents emphasize the situations and needs of working life. The lecturer guides the studies or recommends a suitable self-study method and material.

Prerequisites

B1.2 level of Finnish and Professional Finnish 1.

Teaching methods

Learning tasks, integrated language teaching, simulation, language aware teaching, translanguaging. Face-to-face or online teaching.

Learning materials and recommended literature

Materials provided and recommended by the lecturer.

Assessment methods and criteria

The lecturer assesses general language skills and mastery of the structures, vocabulary and expressions of one’s own professional field.

The student has achieved the goals of the course. He/she knows the key concepts, terminology, and expressions of the profession and is able to use them for different purposes. He/she is able to acquire information, produce oral and written texts, and interact. Student has the ability to apply what he/she has learned in working life situations. He/she is able to analyse the competence required in the profession and studies in the field and the development of his/her own competence.
