Objective

The student gains experience in practical collaboration and professional-level rehearsing, performing and recording situations in various environments such as orchestras and big bands, choirs, guided student groups (different music styles, e.g. jazz, latin, R&B, country, pop/rock, and dance band), musical theatre productions or recording studio ensembles. The student obtains ensemble playing experience from uncompelled student bands.

The student learns to be a responsible member of a study group, is able to prepare their own sheet music or other performance materials if needed, and collects and rehearses a repertoire for their future course examinations and performances. The student understands the phenomena of different styles of music and is able to arrange music for different band lineups.

The student is able to master the methods of transcription, notation and improvisation and to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Students are able to utilize different working methods in developing their own expression. The student gains abilities to act in different music genres professionally and creatively. The student gains abilities to strong musical performance and to produce musical experiences in concerts and in recordings.

The student gains experience in public performances, in preparation for performances and in the associated duties and general practices. The student deepens their knowledge and understanding of the professional musician’s career and ethics through practical work placement. The student can network with domestic and international professionals in music business.
