Objective

The student knows the most common types of heat pumps and is able to explain how different types of heat pumps work. The student is able to draw a diagram of a heat pump plant and dimension the main components of the heat pump plant. The student can design a thermal well and an energy well field. The student knows the legislation and standards related to heat pumps.

Content

Theoretical and functional basis of heat pumps. Legislation. Heat sources. Heat pump types. Heat pumps for small houses. Real estate heat pumps. Heat pumps and LTO. Design and selection of heat pump with sizing and selection program. Design of the heat pump plant and dimensioning of the main components. Design of a heat well. Energy well field design and simulation (EED).

Evaluation scale

0-5

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to design a heat pump system for a small house and a large building. The student is able to dimension the main parts of the heat pump system and to draw a diagram for the system. The students are able to recognize the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course and are able to solve simple problems.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to above, the students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to simple problems in natural and technical sciences.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to apply the fundamental concepts and methods associated with the course to more demanding problems in natural and technical sciences.
