Objective
The student will understand the mechanisms of heat transfer and be able to solve practical heat transfer problems, and calculate heat losses and their costs.
Content
-Basics of piston engine and the structure
-Power plant combustion engines
-Fuel and oil systems of combustion engines and maintenance of combustion engines
-Basics of heat transfer and heat exchangers

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student is familiar with basics of heat transfer.
The student is familiar with the various heat exchangers and their structure.
The student is able to calculate heat-transfer and dimension simple heat exchangers.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student is able to apply various types of heat transfer phenomena in the calculation, as well as to design and dimension various heat exchangers.
The student is able to design simple power plant structures from the heat exchange point of view.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student understands the basics of heat engines and heat processes, and can solve calculations related to them.
The student knows the heat exchanger types, their structure and design principles.
The student knows the various heat transfer mechanisms, and is able to apply them to calculate the heat exchangers and their dimensioning, and knows the effect of material choises on the design.
The student is able to design simple power plant structures from the heat exchange point of view.

Prerequisites
The student knows the laws of thermodynamics and understands the limitations of the laws of thermodynamics. The student can do an energy analysis for the system. The student understands the basics of fluid mechanics.
