Objective

Learning outcomes:
The students knows the principles of the structure and functioning of the musculoskeletal system, especially in terms of the upper limb functioning. The students names the bones of the body and the main muscles of the trunk and the lower limb. The students describes the functioning of the muscles of the upper limb and shoulder region and names the muscles in this area. The students recognizes the effects of musculoskeletal disorders, states of pain and injuries on individual functional capacity in patients of different ages. The student is familiar with the examination and treatment methods in the field of physiatrics and the principles of rehabilitation of musculoskeletal diseases. The students learns how to assist with patient mobility and transfer taking into account the ergonomics and safety. The students recognizes a situation requiring first aid. The student is able to start assisting activities and is able to give first aid in a case of an accident, sudden illness or injury.

Contents:
- Anatomical planes and sections, directional terms and types of movements
- Bone tissue, joints, skeleton, details of upper limb bones
- Muscle tissue, muscle function
- Structure and function of the upper limb and the musculoskeletal system
- Superficial muscles of the lower limb, abdomen and back
- Musculoskeletal disorders, examination and treatment methods
- Rehabilitation in musculoskeletal disorders
- Effects of musculoskeletal structure and disorders on human occupation and health
- Key principles for assisting mobility and the use of assistive devices
- Acting as a helper in case of an accident, sudden illness and/or injury.

Further information:
The course includes musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology 3 ECTS, physiatrics 1 ECTS, methods in patient transfer 0,5 ECTS and emergency first aid 0,5 ECTS.

The course includes practical exercises in patient transfers and practical exercises in emergency first aid.
