Objective

Students will understand the diversity of childhood and family life as a social phenomenon. They will identify the components of child and family welfare as well as the conceptual changes of childhood and the child in Finnish society. They will understand the importance of childhood for supporting inclusion and preventing social exclusion.

Content

Components of child and family welfare. Social integration, poverty, exclusion and marginalization from a child-hood point of view. Forms of early support. A resource-based perspective.

Please note! All students are expected to participate in the orientation lecture, presentations and discussions on learning assignments -lecture, and to the group exam. Active participation is required 75% minimum.

Content scheduling

Lectures and a field assignment, which is done independently during the course. The tasks are reviewed together.
The course ends with a group exam.

Further information

The teaching in the course is in Finnish, English is also used as lecture materials. Assignment and exam can be done in English.
