Objective

The student will understand the concepts of inorganic and organic materials and the primary and secondary bonding and the effect of bonds on the main characteristics of materials. The student is able to wright and name chemical formulas of inorganic materials and can use them for calculating solvent concentrations and other basic chemical calculations.

The student knows the structure, characteristics and history of inorganic pigments and is able to identify these pigments with basic chemical analyses.

Content

Basic theory of inorganic chemistry related to conservation and its materials.
Chemical bonding, formulas, concentration calculations and related calculations.
Structure and characteristics of inorganic pigments, history of inorganic pigments.
Pigments portfolio.

Location and time

Virtual lectures are held via TEAMS.
Laboratory works are kept at Arabia campus, Hämeentie 135 D

Materials

Literature list and study hand out given by the lecturer.

Teaching methods

Tuition mostly in Finnish, lecture, contact teaching, guided assignments, laboratory works, independent work with literature.
Course might contain virtual lectures that can be recorded. If student doesn´t accept his name, voice or chat comments to be recorded, that must be announced to teacher via email by 1.10. kirsi.perkiomaki@metropolia.fi
