Objective
• Basic concepts in cultural tourism
• Introduction to the Tourism Industry/ Creative Industries (depending on the student’s major study programme; e.g. cultural management students choose Introduction to the Tourism Industry)
• Current phenomena in cultural tourism: live like a local, sustainable travel
• Cultural tourism products in Finland
• Exploration of cultural tourism offerings in international destinations
Content
Upon completing the course, the student
• will possess a basic understanding of cultural tourism and how actors in the tourism industry and creative industries can join their competencies to create value for the community in terms of viable cultural tourism products.
• recognizes the multi-faceted operational environment affiliated with cultural tourism
• recognizes the stakeholders in cultural tourism
• understands the difference between the tourism industry and creative industries in terms of operational environment
• recognizes culture as a pull factor in tourism and the potential benefits of tourism for the creative industries

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student has little command of the basic concepts of cultural tourism and shows limited ability to implement these into the course assignments. The student contributes to teamwork at a minimum level and shows little interest in sharing his/her expertise.

The student has good command of the basic concepts of cultural tourism and is able to implement these into the course assignments. The student contributes actively to teamwork and is able to share his/her expertise in his/her field.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student has excellent command of the basic concepts of cultural tourism and is able to implement these into the course assignments in a novel and original manner. The student contributes actively to teamwork and is able to optimally share his/her expertise in his/her field.
