Objective

On completion of the course the student can
- justify the importance of visual communication as part of their studies and work tasks
- make use of the basics of visual communication to support their communication
- use typical visual design tools and software, and their use to the extent required form the cultural manager
- list the requirements for different communication channels, such as social media and print media, for visual communication content and technical quality
- produce and subscribe to objective-oriented visual content, from internal communication documents to marketing products
- outsource professional production of visual communication products and services to production professionals and manage related production processes

- Basics of visual communication, eg. psychology of perception, meaning of color and image, typography, layout
- Basics of image processing: technical quality, repairs, digital image processing
- The basics of layout
- Basic use of image editing software

The student knows the basic principles of visual communication and design. They know how the communication channel affects the content and quality requirements of visual communication. They know the simple basic use of visual design software and regard visuality as a part of their professional communication. They can order professional visual services and products for production work.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to justify the importance of visual communication as part of their studies and work assignments. They can use the basics of visual communication purposefully to support their own communication. They are familiar with typical visual design tools and programs, and can use them to the extent required from the cultural manager. The student knows the requirements of different communication channels for visual communication content and technical quality. They are able to produce and subscribe to objective-oriented visual content. The student can order professional visual communication products and services from professionals, and manage related production processes.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to apply the basic principles of visual communication and design to their studies and to practical production work. The student takes into consideration the requirements of different communication channels for visual communication content and is able to produce objective-oriented content. They are able to use visual design software diversely to support work assignments and studies. The student is able to order productional services and products from providers and to cooperate professionally. They are able to manage processes related to visual communication products and services.
