Objective

Students recognise the central characteristics and possibilities of the ecosystem created by embedded systems. Students form an understanding of the required technologies and components, as well as the architecture of device design. Students know the most important applications, their history and their development potential. The goals also include recognising the most important component manufacturers and the influential operators of the field. Students know how to observe the connections between the devices, environment and accumulated data of the IoT, and how to identify methods of utilising the system. Students have a grasp on the development paths and professional opportunities in the future of design.

Content

The course focuses on embedded systems and their interfaces in relation to sensoring, architecture and usages. Internet of Things is a central concept, which brings our environment and the devices we use into a common technical and interactive ecosystem. In addition to current implementations, the course covers the development of this field, future implementations of the concepts and the future uses of existing applications.

- embedded systems: history, current day and future
- IoT: device, component and software architecture
- device design assignment: creating a functional practice product
