Objective
Students know the role of media and journalism as a social power. They know key mechanisms relating to the production and reception of media representations. They know the main theories related to the relationship of media and society. They know structures, activities and economical significance of media institutions as well as their relations to other institutions in society, and are able to assess critically the activities of the media. Students are capable of perceiving the social dimensions of their professional practice.

The course consists of presentations made by students independently in groups. The presentations will be shown to other participants. The key source: Seppänen & Väliverronen: Mediayhteiskunta. Presence during presentations required. The meetings through Zoom.
