Objective

(5 credits) After the course, the student can work as a valuable part of a small game studio and understand the basics of entrepreneurship in games. The student can solve some core challenges of teamwork, game production, and game entrepreneurship.
(10 credits) After the course, the student can work as a valuable part of a small game studio and understand the basics of entrepreneurship in games. The student can solve some core challenges of teamwork, game production, and game entrepreneurship, and is able to set up a studio. They have published a game on a commercial platform and know the basics of the publishing process and game marketing.

Content

Aka. "Game Studio Larp"
During this course, you develop a video game together with a team for two years and participate in monthly course meetings (about 22 meetings). In the meetings, we discuss topics related to running a game studio on a wide scale - from production to company culture, and from market research to looking for funding. For some topics, we invite industry senior guest speakers. On top of this, during each meeting, we agree on monthly milestones for your team based on your situation. We follow up on these milestones and discuss any shortcomings.

You can complete the course with either 5 credits or 10 credits.
5 credits: you actively work with your team and participate in the monthly meetings.
10 credits: you actively work with your team, participate in the monthly meetings, and publish the game on a commercial platform. With guidance from the lecturer, you make and implement a marketing plan on an agreed-upon scale.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Student has achieved the course objectives. Student will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. Student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.
