Course unit code: TX00FX21

General information

Credits
1 cr

Objective

• The student understands the operating principle of a heat pump and can illustrate the operation of the refrigerant circuit in the refrigerant log p,h-diagram, determining from the diagram the heat pump's coefficient of performance, refrigerant superheating, and subcooling.
• The student can calculate the thermal energy produced by free energy using the coefficient of performance, as well as the thermal power taken from the heat source.

Content

• The operating principle of heat pumps, including the main components of the refrigerant circuit and their function
• The refrigerant log p,h-diagram and the refrigeration cycle in the log p,h-diagram.
• Refrigerant superheating and subcooling.
• Calculating the coefficient of performance (COP) and the portion of free energy in the produced thermal energy, as well as the power taken from the heat source.
