Objective

- recognises the instruments, materials and equipment of periodontal treatment, and uses them safely
- is able to plan, implement and assess the stages of periodontal treatment in a simulation in a skills exercise room and clinically in a peer-learning group at the oral hygiene teaching clinic
- plans and implements a peer student's clinical oral hygiene treatment and assesses its outcome
- organises their work economically and ecologically and works according to the occupational safety instructions

- understand the basic aetiology of illnesses at the cellular level, and structural changes associated with illnesses
- understands the general principles of healing

Content

Practical training in a simulation environment
Periodontological instruments and equipment
Basics of periodontology in oral hygiene
Pathophysiology (cellular-level stress changes and recovery types) 0,5 credits
Inflammation and basic immunology 0,5 credits
Practical training: Health counselling of peer student, and oral hygiene work at Metropolia's oral hygiene teaching clinic
