Course unit code: TX00FQ82
General information
- Credits
- 5 cr
Objective
pon completing the course, you will have mastered the concept of reaction equilibrium and be able to apply it in practice. You can solve computational problems on a concentration scale, whether they involve general reversible reactions, weak acid and base pH calculations, or solubility equilibria. Additionally, you will have the skills to apply the ideal gas law and understand the fundamentals of thermochemistry, including the principles of calculating reaction heats. With these abilities, you are ready to tackle diverse applications in the field of chemistry.
Content
• States of matter: application of the ideal gas law.
• Basics of thermochemistry.
• Chemical reaction:
- oxidation and reduction
- stoichiometry of oxidation-reduction reactions
- reversible reactions => the concept of chemical equilibrium
- the principle of Le Chatelier
- calculation of chemical equilibria
• Deepening the concepts of acids and bases:
- calculation of the pH of weak acids and bases
- neutralization.
• Dissolution and deposition: calculations based on the concepts of equilibrium
• Experimental uncertainty, the most important analytical techniques.
