Objective
The student is proficient in the principles of mechanical processing of renewable raw materials and products in line with the values of sustainable development, equipment solutions, and sizing methods for selected processes. The student has practical proficiency in operating mechanical unit processes and handling test results, requiring knowledge of natural science and technical phenomena.
Content
The course covers the following mechanical unit processes and their applications:
in the processing of ecologically sustainable renewable raw materials
in product development and manufacturing in line with the values of sustainable development
in energy-efficient production implementation
Both theoretically and in practical laboratory work, the following unit processes are addressed:
Filtration
Mixing
Fluidization
Membrane techniques
Qualifications
Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer Basics
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student is able to calculate the mechanical unit processes with the given equations.
The student is familiar with some of the industry-specific equipment solutions.
The student is able to measure the experimental data and calculate it by means of predefined formulas, for example the dimensions of the equipment.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Students are able to model mechanical unit processes based on given assumptions and evaluate and modify solutions as needed.
The student is familiar with the most common equipment solutions used in industry.
The student is able to handle experimental data and calculate with given equations, for example, size of equipment.
