Objective

The student knows the physical phenomena of nuclear energy production and their connection to nuclear energy production and nuclear safety. The student knows the types of nuclear power plants used in energy production and the safety systems applied in them. The student will understand the use of small modular reactors for electricity and heat production. The student will be familiar with the main aspects of nuclear waste management. The student will know how the use of nuclear energy is controlled and how nuclear energy is used in Finland and worldwide.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students can define or describe concepts and phenomena related to nuclear power. The student understands the basics of radiation safety. The student knows the basic concepts of nuclear power.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student knows the structures and operating principles of different types of nuclear power plants. The student knows the effects of radiation on the environment and humans. They know the safety solutions in nuclear power. They know the basics of fuel handling.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student knows the different types of nuclear power plants. They can calculate simple radiation-related calculations and understand the importance of radiation safety. Understand the operation of safety systems in nuclear power plants. The student will know the operation of the fuel processing chain and the solutions for the disposal of radioactive waste.

Students can define or describe concepts and phenomena related to nuclear power. The student understands the basics of radiation safety. The student knows the basic concepts of nuclear power.
