Objective
The student understands the basics of gene technology in theory and practice. S/he understands the significance of DNA techniques in fingerprinting and GMO analyses. The student is familiar with the Finnish law and regulations and has considered ethical issues regarding gene technology.
Content
Cloning methods and vector structures in DNA technology. DNA amplification-, hybridization- and sequencing methods, RNAi techniques and CRISPR gene editing method. Gene technology ethics, Finnish law and regulations, risk analyses. The student can isolate, purify and characterize nucleic acids in laboratory works (for example AGE, PCR, digestions, transformation, plasmid isolation).
