Introduction to Learning and Teaching MusicLaajuus (5 ECTS)

Objective

The student has skills for developing arts education and the music pedagogue´s professionalism, for building expertise and for reflectively developing their own know-how. They recognize learning factors of their own musical path and know how to develop their own learning taking advantage of pedagogic understanding.

The student becomes familiar with phenomena of pedagogical interaction, gets tools to recognize and support learners’ strengths and understands extensive possibilities of the methods of music education in teaching an instrument. The student becomes familiar with different instrument and vocal teaching learning environments, individual and group teaching methods, interaction with learners of different ages, preservation of learning motivation, evaluation processes and reflection alone and in a group. The student is prepared for and has tools for internship.

Content

Positive pedagogy and supporting the learner’s strengths with methods of music education. Music pedagogue’s working environment, music pedagogue’s tool box. Meeting learners of different age groups, skills of group work and interaction. One-to-one tuition procedures of main instrument: lesson structure, the basics of instrument, teaching materials. Pedagogical interaction and pedagogic oath.
