On completition of this course the student is able to:
- explain the SI unit system
- manipulate numbers and convert units using scientific notations
- make quick order of magnitude estimates
- explain the concept of force and its role in causing change in motion
- explain the concept of work and evaluate the work done by forces
- describe the relation between energy and power

The student is able to:
- use the SI unit system and convert units
- manipulate numbers using scientific notation
- make quick order of magnitude estimates
In addition, the student:
- understands the basic concepts of mechanical force, motion, energy, work and power

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In addition to satisfactory criteria:
- The student is able to solve standard problems arising in this field

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to good criteria:
- The student can apply the concepts to analyze problems and is able to formulate and solve them mathematically
