Objective
On completion of the course, the student will understand vibration phenomena, be able to assess the vibration level, analyse vibrations with the finite element method, be familiar with methods to control vibrations, and with the fundamentals of vibration measurements.

The student understands different vibration phenomena and quantities that affect vibrations, and can calculate some basic cases.
The student can analyse vibrations with the finite element method using examples.

The student can apply given equations to different vibration phenomena.
The student can analyse vibrations with the finite element method.
The student understands the concept of eigenvalues and mode shapes.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student understands vibration phenomena and their mathematical modelling and can apply them to vibration control.
The student can analyse vibrations with the finite element method, interpret the results, and assess their validity.
The student can form the equations of motion for a multi-degree-of-freedom system, and compute the eigenvalues and mode shapes.
The student knows the fundamentals of vibration measurement.
