Objective

After completion of this course the student will have understanding of patient monitoring methods and devices. The student will comprehend the principles of physiological signals, signal origins, measuring interfaces, sensors and signal processing. The student will have deeper understanding of the most common patient monitoring devices and their basic maintenance and repair procedures. The student will have basic comprehension of monitoring methods in medical special units. The student will understand how to cooperate with technical and clinical professionals.

2. Physiological parameters
3. Origin of physiological signals, signal detection and processing
4. Sensors, wireless sensors and sensor networks
5. Algorithms, software, data mining and display
6. Vital function monitoring
7. Monitoring other physiological parameters
8. Multichannel patient monitor
9. Patient monitoring during general anesthesia
10. Patient monitoring during intensive care
11. Patient monitoring during basic care
12. Patient monitoring during transportation
13. Patient monitoring during special situations

Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1. The student is able to understand the basic principles, methods and techniques of patient monitoring.
2. The student is able to understand the structure, configuration and function of the most common monitoring devices.
3. The student is able to understand the most common breakdowns and failures of monitoring devices.
4. The student is able to carry out the basic maintenance and repair procedures of monitoring devices.
5. The student is able to cooperate with healthcare professionals on a basic level.
