Objective
Learning outcomes:
When the student has completed the course he/she understand the importance of aseptical working methods and is able to work with microorganisms safely. The student can isolate different kind of microorganisms, study the characteristics of the isolated strains and make use of the knowledge in the conservation work.
Content
Course contents (core content level):
The main content of the course is:
classification of micro-organisms, the basic characteristics of the different microbe groups and the main vermins found in museums
the vital functions of microorganisms and factors influencing microbial growth
working methods in microbiology and their use in conservation work
Core content:
The core content consists of studies of different mechanisms in biodeterioration and to learn how to restrain the biological growth as a part of the conservation work.
