Objective

Students can assess diverse work environments and they are able to apply their knowledge when organising the work environment by creating it more effective and agreeable from the perspective of vision. They can describe the optical components of occupational spectacles and the methods of protection of eyes, and can prescribe and fit eyeglasses, which consider the ergonomic factors in the work environment.

Content

Legislation on visual ergonomics. Vision requirements for various professional groups, legislation on driver’s licences, significance of leisure activities to prescribing spectacles, criteria and legislation regarding compensation for occupational spectacles, standards for eye protectors. Instruction and guidance of work communities regarding vision ergonomics. Consulting as a work-vision expert and cooperating in multiprofessional promotion of occupational vision. Assessing vision ergonomics in work community. Basics of perceptual ergonomics, assessment of workload and means of ergonomics to create and optimal workload. Ergonomics in the optical profession. Assessment of work-related visual strain with various measures and methods as well as achieving optimal visual strain in practice. The significance of lighting at work stations in the workplace.

Students master professional concepts, and they justify their choices using the comprehensive knowledge base, based on the client’s needs. Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.

Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment as well as apply working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work according to professional ethics as well as commit themselves to the group, enhancing its functioning.

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base. They also assess and develop their own functioning systematically.

Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment. They also apply working methods flexibly and safely.

Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of various situations, and in their work they commit themselves to the code of professional conduct.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base, in changing environments. They also assess their own functioning and produce knowledge to develop their operating environment.

Students act independently and professionally and develop their working and operating environments together with other actors.

Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of complex and unpredictable situations. Their work develops and renews professional procedures and practices.
