Objective
The student knows the design criteria for infrastructures and can determine the need for foundation reinforcement if the criteria are not met. The student knows how to choose a base strengthening method suitable for different conditions and knows the limitations and advantages of the methods to support the choice, also taking into account the possibilities of sustainable development. After completing the course, the student will be able to analyze the properties of the soil and to identify, which geotechnical calculations need to be performed regarding the infrastructure. The student can do typical geotechnical calculations, such as the subsidence and severity of the road embankment, the severity of the excavation and the earth pressure affecting the support structure.

The student knows the key basics of foundation structures related to infrastructure, such as the behavior of the soil under structural loads and the criteria for the design of foundation structures. The student knows how to make a calculation model and what is meant by geotechnical calculations.

The student knows how to apply the before mentioned basics of infrastructure foundations in practice and choose the right foundation reinforcement methods if criterias are not met.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student knows the basic principles of the course commendably and knows very well how to apply calculation information to the design of foundation structures.
