Objective
The student identifies the commonest sports injuries in the lower extremities and how they are caused. The student is familiar with the differential diagnoses of problems with the lower extremities and disturbances in the chain of movement of lower extremities, including their rehabilitation. The student is able to take into account the needs of athletes of different ages as podiatrist patients and to apply podiatry methods purposefully in a variety of ways in the rehabilitation of sports and exercise injuries. The student is familiar with the main principles of evaluating exercise and physical performance. The student has an understanding on specific training for various sports.
The student is able to describe the different stages of running. The student is able to describe the functioning of the joints and muscles in the lower extremities during running and understands the role of the movement of the torso and upper extremities in running. The student understands the functional anatomy and biomechanics of the ankle and foot at the different stages of running. The student is able to identify typical biomechanical deviations in running and understands their significance in terms of the customer's level of performance and risk for injury in the lower extremities. The student is able to assess the customer's movements by means of movement analysis equipment.
The student is able to describe the structure and operating principles of various sports footwear. The student understands the potential of sports footwear in the prevention and rehabilitation of sports injuries.
