Objective
Expertise in seating ergonomics and pressure ulcer risk management.
The student understands the biomechanics of sitting in a wheelchair and its effects on sitting ergonomics and functional capacity. They can assess the risk of pressure ulcers and understand the importance of skin comfort in designing solutions to minimise seating pressure. In addition, the student will be familiar with the principles and selection criteria of seating cushions, pressure redistribution and antidecubitus solutions such as mattresses.
Application and practical tools.
The student will be able to use digital measuring devices to assess the risk of pressure ulcers and apply the information to the individual needs of the client. They will be able to fit, assess and guide the use of assistive devices, and will be able to guide the client in a goal-oriented and safe manner in terms of seating posture, prevention of pressure ulcer risk and use of assistive devices.
