Descriptions

The learner’s track curriculum in Industrial Management consists modules which are distributed as follows:
• compulsory studies of the first year 76 ECTS
• second year studies of the major 60 ECTS
• third year studies of the major 45 ECTS
• optional and elective studies 14 ECTS
• work placement 30 ECTS
• bachelor thesis 15 ECTS
ALTOGETHER 240 ECTS



The studies of the first year of study are compulsory and common to all the students in the degree programme. The major (specialisation) is selected at the end of the first year of study. There are two options: ICT Business and Process Management.

After the first year the studies consist of studies for the major and optional and elective studies. A part of the studies will be in English.

The work placements are mainly done during summer. A placement abroad is also possible. Double degree students can do their placement after the studies abroad in the destination country. In the projects carried out in connection with professional studies, competences develop around current phenomena.

Industrial management engineers graduating from the program are capable of developing industrial and service processes of ever changing global networks by applying techno-economic thinking and utilizing modern practices as well as principles of sustainability.

Development

Students do their first working life project already during their first year, and the projects have an essential role also during the professional and advanced studies. Thesis projects are based on company or public sector initiatives and/or for their use. The advisory board for Industrial Management reviewed the changes to the curriculum in November 2024.

This curriculum is almost identical with the earlier one from 2023. Schedules have been somewhat changed. The double degree offer has been removed.

Teaching on AI and information security have been included in the courses Engineering Finnish and Communication Skills and Fact Based Management.

Objective

Graduates from industrial management know the possibilities to develop businesses by applying different technical solutions and can assess the options from the business perspective. He/she can work both independently and in a team and solve business problems of technical/economic nature. He/she is can apply sustainability principles together with other professionals and companies. Engineers from industrial management care also able to gain and implement new knowledge in their field.
