Objective
The student understands basics of qualitative and quantitative analysis and use of standards and calibration. The student understands basics of spectroscopy and chromatography and volumetric methods. The student knows how to take an environmental sample in field conditions. The student knows how to work in a laboratory environment.

Qualifications
The student understands the essential concepts related to the structure of elements and compounds. He/she is also able to conduct basic calculations concerning the amount of substance, irreversible reactions, the contents of solutions and the pH of strong acids and bases.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student is able define or describe the subject matter related to the concepts and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the associated basic quantitative comparisons and calculations.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student is able to apply, calculate, change and choose the concepts related to the matter and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the basic quantitative calculations as well as to complete and produce the necessary information for the calculations.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The students is able to categorize, collect, combine and generalize the concepts related to the matter and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the basic quantitative calculations as well as derive and rearrange given basic information.
