Objective

The student will learn to dimension and select statically loaded joints between machine elements. The student will learn to understand engineering material properties in theory and in practice and is able to create suitable machine part combinations.

Content

• Machine element joints: spring, screw, weld, deformation, glue and brazing
• Machine hub and shaft joints: prescribed form and friction
• Tensile, shear, bending and toughness tests
• Creep and fatigue
• Effect of manufacturing method on material selection

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student identifies machine parts and is able to select the calculation formulae necessary for the selection and sizing of individual components.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to select and dimension suitable joints for mechanical arrangements.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student understands influencing factors between mechanical arrangements. The student is able to select, dimension and calculate statically loaded machine element joints.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student identifies machine parts and is able to select the calculation formulae necessary for the selection and sizing of individual components.
