Objective

The student
• is able to use theoretical, practical and experiential knowledge in the planning and implementation of individual, ensemble and group teaching
• can create meaningful and equitable learning situations using functional methods, even without their own instrument
• can instruct their students in a supportive manner and support their strengths
• takes into account the different starting points of learners and strengthens the sense of community and interaction in the group
• can analyse musical interaction and the factors that influence learning situations
• deepens their pedagogical thinking independently and develops socially sustainable teaching.

Content

• Lectures and supervised teaching practice in support of the instrument or teaching method
• Attention to the key contents of basic art education: composition, improvisation, listening to music and perception.
• Creative musical group work methods that support multiculturalism and inclusion.
• Social sustainability in teaching, e.g. development of group dynamics and participatory teaching

Qualifications

Degree according to the extended syllabus level of basic education in music in Finland or equivalent skills and knowledge

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student
• is able to lead creative musical group activities in accordance with the common contents of basic art education (composition, improvisation, listening to and perceiving music)
• is able to direct ensembles
• can analyse learning events
• is able to reflect on their pedagogical competence and development.
